We then lose all our natural width that comes from Bowen. Shouldn’t have to play our best attacking player out of position.

Re: ⚽ Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I would just play Bowen up there… the ball isn’t sticking to Antonio anyway.

Give Antonio a rest for a week or 2. He isn’t going to win any Ariel battles with burn next week

I’d play Soucek as a false 9 or Bowen and Antonio as a 2.

But we keep scoring so Moyes won’t change it.

As Ted Fenton said the body language with Antonio doesn't look good.
Watch him with his hands on his hips when Leicester took their penalty.
That's schoolboy stuff should always be alert.

Re: ⚽ Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Antonio seems to have stopped doing the thing he was great at which was putting the ball behind the defence and challenging the defenders in a race to get it. Not sure if he's worried about his hamstrings going again but he very rarely seems to outright sprint any more which has reduced his effectiveness and given the opposition far less to worry about.

Agreed Percy Antonio's body language isn't good for some reason he's not a happy bunny.

Antonio seems to have lost his mojo can't remember his last goal for us I don't blame him the bloke needs a rest.
But with no other striker in the club Moyes will flog him to death

“Antonio was useless again”

No he wasn’t. He had a very good game, held the ball up very well and should’ve had an assist had Fornals not fucked it up.

"We will need a better left back next season with Cresswell as the back up and Moyes is aware of this I think"

I think a hell of a lot of us were aware of this last summer when we entered the season with 1 left back in the squad.

Agree with more balanced thoughts about the performance of some players like Cresswell, Coufal, Soucek, Fredericks, Fornals etc. They were all below the standards needed to make top 8 let alone top 6 or top 4.

Soucek is less of a problem for me since he does so much hard work off the ball that goes unnoticed and successful teams need those unselfish type of players. Coufal may well be suffering from having COVID and playing non-stop for 2 seasons but he has always struggled against the real pacy wide men. Johnson is the best defender at right back but needs to develop his game in the attacking sense as he struggles to get a decent cross in but for me he is the long term solution at right back. Having said all that I understand why Fredericks came on as he has the pace to match Barnes and that actually worked as the threat he posed was nullified after that. Fredericks issue is simply poor technique for a professional footballer ( control and passing) .

Fornals, Lanzini were good in flashes but generally struggled to be involved enough. The one thing we see now is that we still are not good enough with movement and passing compared to a lot of teams. Leicester were keeping possession much better than us. We once again struggle with teams that press us and that has become well known by opposition managers now which is another reason we are struggling to be as effective as last season. Our counter attacking game is now well known and we need another way to get around teams but that needs players with more movement and pace and better passing etc.

Tiredness ( small squad with 14 or 15 players playing 99% of games) , teams now more aware of our strengths and weaknesses and setting up to nullify us as opposed to last season where we were the "surprise team".

The biggest negatives were of course Cresswell who at 33 is really struggling to get back to the levels he was at before he got injured and had a shocker defensively yesterday and against Leeds. We will need a better left back next season with Cresswell as the back up and Moyes is aware of this I think. Antonio as other posters mention is playing within himself to avoid injury I think. He is no longer closing down and busting a gut to win the ball as he was early on and late last season. His asset is his strength and running and without that being full on he is ineffective because he, like Fredericks, is technically quite poor for a Premiership player ( passing and control ). Although Moyes says forwards are reluctant to sign to be his back up, we actually need a better forward than him in reality.

The 2 successes on the day were Diop who was aggressive, strong and positive in the air and in challenges generally and, of course, Bowen who is getting consistency and becoming a real threat with his running and strength on the ball. We should send the whole squad to live and run through the fields of his family farm for strength training.

All in all, a point gained but play the way we have and we will not be getting much from the Barcodes or Wolves. IMHO.

I think Liverpool's interest in him is pretty real.

I suppose it depends what they end up doing with Salah.

Can't see Bowen wanting to be a bench warmer behind Salah, Mane and Diaz after having his best ever season

I think Klopp thinks the same about him and Liverpool's bench, which is why I didn't include him there.

Think Bowen is good enough to at least be on the bench 😅

Re: ⚽ Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread
The reality is we probably have three top class players Zouma, Bowen, Rice, you can maybe throw in the keeper and possibly Antonio on his day, and Ogbonna may come back strong, Benrahma may move up a level, but unlikely. So to be a top side next year we probably need as many as four or even five quality signings over the summer, then you have the squad players to replace who are leaving, etc.

No chance all this will happen over the summer, will be lucky to even achieve half of it, then again Moyes has said it will be a slow build.

Yeah thought Diop was excellent yesterday…. Hopefully keep that cat kicking cunt out of the side for a bit and let all this shit blow over so we can concentrate on playing FOOTBALL
